obviousdecoy I love everything about this album :) The songs felt like poems or folktales. I loved how haunting and beautiful your voice sounds against the music and lyrics. Animals can be cruel and beautiful. Love the perspectives. Anyways, badass music, lyrics, vocals, and art. I like to turn on the album and exist. Thanks for making it! 🥰🤘

Xtra Happy There's something about Allie's voice that I can only think of to describe as hauntingly beautiful. The way aeseaes arrange both their original work and their cover versions has such an air of mystique and a distinct eeriness to it; it gets under your skin and makes your hair stand on end with chilling ease. Favorite track: Bloodsucker.

Chimera 03:10
chimera heart attacker when i see her withering in fear athena she’s the reason the sky is blue sewn from water, heaven’s daughter feeds me feels sharp like i swallowed the bell just for one day time flows both ways you yell out loud in the middle of my mouth four winds drown the hours, you’ll never come out chimera heart attacker when i see her withering in fear feed me fear feed me fear all the words you can’t tell shed your past selves, be someone else you yell out loud in the middle of my mouth four winds drown the hours, you’ll never come out

Wild 03:38
lazing in the blue of ruined ribbons i know that i’ve got a life worth living i’ve been up an hour and i already caught all of my dreams pulled all of the bones outside their legs and tied them up with snake strings by your bed and now I guess I’ll rearrange your garden and sleep all day existence is futile don’t need your approval i’ll purr like a good child but you know i’m still wild still wild every time i leave my day body i turn into Bastet, feeling godly spending all my lives like cigarettes like i’m seventeen idle as a spider full of flies clawing at the oceans in your eyes i don’t need some fabricated grind to feel all right no nothing’s broken you left the cage open trapped in this toy lion but you know i’m still wild but you know i’m still wild
6.
Bloodsucker 03:45
it’s so quiet, oh my god you know i don’t like that look in your eyes talk so loud, shut your mouth you’re on the big screen, i know what you’re trying to sell me the good kind of parasite, a bad bloodsucker the good kind of parasite, a bad bloodsucker i get that itch and i’m not ashamed, i wanna i’ll make you feel like i feel every day fill me up with your nothing news thousands of me and only one of you my whole life, who am i they want to tell me what isn’t mine dance on their bodies in the golden age they’ve got their poison, but i brought the plague (oohs) it’s so quiet, oh my god thanks for inviting me in, you won’t feel anything red rich blood, let’s drink up i want your thin skin, i know what you’re trying to tell me the good kind of parasite, a bad bloodsucker the good kind of parasite, a bad bloodsucker i get that itch and i’m not ashamed, i wanna i’ll make you feel like i feel every day fill me up with your nothing news thousands of me and only one of you my whole life, who am i they want to tell me what isn’t mine dance on their bodies in the golden age they’ve got their poison, but i brought the plague

Three Hearts 04:01
three hearts, nine brains, and blue blood three hearts, nine brains, and blue blood i hold the shape of water the ocean pulls me under three hearts, nine brains, and blue blood i blend into a new world the poison paralyzes the space between my eyes flat like a flounder, warm like the river sun I’m a shapeshifter, I can be anyone kaleidoscopes of others can cover my true colors the blur of being unseen i bathe my body in black ink flat like a flounder, warm like the river sun I’m a shapeshifter, I can be anyone
8.
Much Madness 03:52
we’ll drag you out into the light, quiet like the vines what are you afraid of, if you really have nothing to hide? better beasts with bigger bones, birds that never fly can’t show our children what’s crowded under concrete skies blood and stone, split down the spine a diamond blade to stretch your eyes much madness is divinest sense much sense starkest madness hungry hawks spare the dogs, dreaming lidless sleep hem and hiss a venom kiss to keep them sick money honey thick and muddy humming on my tongue lawless swell, what grows too large must devour itself blood and stone, skin like mine a diamond blade to stretch your eyes much madness is divinest sense much sense starkest madness oily machines like swarms of bees buzzing the lions now outside the screens hunting the right way round twists upside down, they’re pointing at you much madness is divinest sense much sense starkest madness
9.
Black Swan 03:42
who said in my head i knew it flies creep to keep you down muddy the middle in static drying up the now the greatest kind of love is a fantasy i know i can imagine it true and if you had a part it’s a part of me smooth and dappled hues see it shining like a black swan on the edge of what you know warming wings of wax and feathers, all the things you can’t control bandage my body in blue light until i am twelve feet tall safe in the city of wan eyes where the warmouths and weevils crawl praying to the goddess of white noise fill the fog with freckles of gold sleep inside the sun as the air spins with songs from another world see it shining like a black swan on the edge of what you know warming wings of wax and feathers, all the things you can’t control see it shining like a black swan on the edge of what you know warming wings of wax and feathers, i’m the one you can’t control
10.
All in Blue 04:58
you’ll drift on rings around the sun i’ll steal the bottle tops one by one there’s always so much left to be done for the only world i dream of you saw, you saw the fire at night you know the greatest part of life is to be seen by your ultraviolet eye to be seen, i built a house in blue all in blue, all over you heart in bloom, all over you in the arms of all i’ve tried to keep i’ll swell and shrink like a heartbeat even when we’re dead and buried we can slip through the stones like thieves we can hide in the garden leaves we can sail through your arteries i can be anything you believe we can go anywhere we please

about

Since I was very small, I've been fascinated by animals of all kinds, fellow aliens on this strange planet. The animal world is enigmatic but also mirroring our own, a surreal universe of beauty, violence, and mystery.

The initial seeds for many of the songs on Shapeshifter were inspired by different animals, from the elusive, shapeshifting octopus to the carefree domestic housecat, the bloodthirsty mosquito, and the satin bowerbird, who spends years preparing a home for his beloved, decorated all in blue.

As the songs developed, I realized that they were as much about competing voices inside myself as any external forms or creatures. The animals provided the imagery and framework to explore conflicting feelings of dread and delight, anxiety and contentment, power and powerlessness. Our "selves" are never set - they slip and spout and spill over the edges like water, often taking new shapes without us even realizing.

Some songs are more direct, while others are looser sketches incorporating fiction, fable, mythology, and poetry. “Much Madness” and “Carrion Comfort” combine original lyrics with selections from 19th century public domain poems by Emily Dickinson and Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Each song offers an opportunity to explore alternate perspectives and our own roles as humans split between many worlds - the worlds outside and the equally vast and vicious worlds within.
